TCY Guide: Best Online Fitness Platforms
Working out as we know it has evolved, as we argue, for the better. The circumstances surrounding the recent surge of online workout platforms might be bleak, but if one good thing came of recent months it’s the ubiquity of online exercise programs that has made working out accessible anytime, anywhere, with relative ease and little investment.
We’re sharing some of our favorite platforms that deliver top notch exercise content that’ll increase your endorphins, clear your mind, and get you closer to achieving your fitness goals. All you need is a little space and some Wi-Fi connection.
PS—Many of these services are free, or offer free trial periods. Paid platforms tend to run you less than a gym membership. Try a few out and see what works for you!
Nike Training Club: For the all-encompassing app.
This app is great for virtually any length workout, whether you’ve got 15 minutes or an hour. We love the multi-week programs that keep you on track and let you set attainable goals.
There’s currently free access to NTC Premium. Stream the vast library of studio-style workouts and get pro tips from master trainers.
Variis: For Equinox members—a variety of classes by signature brands.
This training app isn't accessible to everyone yet, but if you're an Equinox member or the owner of a Soul Cycle at-home bike (a cool $2,500), you can tap into this network of on-demand fitness classes. We dig this app because it features classes from multiple breakthrough brands like Equinox, SoulCycle, Precision Run, and more—all in one place.
Gaia: For a global yoga community.
Unlock your yoga, meditation, and fitness practice with this program. There's an exclusive library of original content, a community of half a million followers, access to live events and workshops, and ad-free streaming forever. Start a free 1 week trial and cancel anytime.
Live access will cost you $24.92/month and comes with perks like live chat participation with real time Q&As, simultaneous Spanish translation (yes!), and archived events you can stream whenever you want. If you commit to a standard yearly subscription (no live access) it'll cost you just $8.25/mo
CorePower Yoga: For yoga in every format at every level.
We love CorePower's yoga sculpt format that combines weights and flow with cardio and strength-training. Chill out with calm, gentle vinyasa flows or get your sweat on with or without equipment—just filter by category.
There are a handful of free classes that rotate every week, if you want to try before you buy. Get unlimited access to a full collection of 300+ classes for $19.99/month.
Peloton: For a powerful studio-like experience on your TV.
It's more than just cycling. Get thousands of on-demand classes in 10+ categories: strength, yoga, outdoor running, bootcamp, etc.
Our favorite feature is that you can access the full library of workouts streamed live and on-demand from the studio on your Apple TV! Feel like you're in a gym class without leaving your home.
Try the platform free for 30 days and then become a digital member for just $12.99/month.
Tracy Anderson: For immersive total-body workouts.
Each week, Tracy creates and delivers brand new classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness levels. We like that the moves change every week, so your workouts stay fresh and fun.
There's a free 14 day trial, after which this platform will cost $90/ month.
Kichgo on Youtube: For full-body pro pilates at home.
Get a celebrity training experience in the luxury of your own home. Expert Pilates instructor Kit Rich leads these killer cardio and Pilates-inspired sequences. Some videos require equipment like bands and weights, but many are body-weight.
Get exclusive access to 20 downloadable videos for $30, or check out some of her free videos on Youtube.
Fitness Blender on Youtube: For an extensive no-frills workout library.
We've been using Fitness Blender for ages. This husband and wife duo delivers 600 free full length workout videos and counting. The content is simple and honest—it's no wonder the channel has more than 6 million subscribers.
Yoga with Adriene on Youtube: For mindful yoga with positive vibes.
Adriene is as good as they get. She's positive, cute, kind-hearted, and offers a practice that suits any mood. Create space, tone and trim, relieve a tired mind, and cultivate self-love with her collection of free videos.
PS—Benji the dog makes a guest appearance in many of the videos. We can't get enough of him.
